Willem Van Vliet, PhD
Willem van Vliet is Professor Emeritus of Urban Planning at the University of Colorado with over 40 years of experience in urban development worldwide. He served as Director of the Center for International Research and Education Projects and the Center for Children, Youth and Environments, and has been a consultant to UN-Habitat, the United Nations program working towards a better urban future. His contributions include recommendations to ensure that cities become more inclusive, sustainable and affordable and function as sources of economic growth and social development. Dr. Van Vliet has authored or co-authored 11 books and numerous journal articles. His primary interest is in community engagement and the policy research that includes the voices of underrepresented populations.
